Wireless Infrared Switch
Wireless Infrared switch
Well many of us in our daily lives have sometimes fantasized about switching on and off our daily appliances like fan, tubelight, television, music systems, computer, etc, etc, with the help of a remote control.Isnt this really great, switching off the fan siting on your bed when you start feeling cold, switching on the tv from the mains directly with its remote, wen getting bored and feeling lazy to stand up and go to your music system to plug it on.this is really wonderful ,actually this type of product is available in the market but very few of know about it.
Actually this type of device actually is available in the marketbut its reall very costly and cannot be afforded to be installed in our houses. But with the advent of technology we as beginners in electronics can really make this so called remote controlled swtch or the infrared switch with very less cost and can be very easily installed in our homes.
BASIC PRINCIPLES AND COMPONENTS USED:
The basic principles involved in this infrared switchare as follows .
1). Firstly we have used an infrared receiver called the tsop 1738 ,this is basically a sensor which is used very commonly for sensor purposes. This transciever basically consisits of three pins. The first pin is the ground , second pin is the power supply ,this receiver works on 6 volts.and the third pin is the output. when no infrared light is falling on it the output remains high and as soon as the lght starts falling on it the output is low.
2). we have used two transistors
a). BC 558:It is a pnp transistor. The transistor acts as a switching device in this circuit and not as an amplifier. Since this is a pnp transistor this switches when the input is low.
b).BC 548:It is an npn transistor. The transistor bc 548 also acts like a switching device in this circuit rather than an amplifier. Since this is a npn transistor this switches when the input is high.
3). A capacitor of 0.1 microfarad is connected between the collector of bc 558 and ground to isolate the collector from ground when the transistor switches and the collector pin reaches vcc.
4). The basic building block of this circuit is the ic 4017,which is commonly known as the decade counter because this ic has 10 output pins which can work like counters.
This is a 16 pin dual in line package ic.
All the 10 outputs come to a high state one after one. This ic has 10 output pins from d0 to d9,16 pin is vcc and 8th pin is ground.
14th pin is clock input pin and 13th pin is clock enable. When the 13 pin is grounded the counting is enabled and if it is connected to vcc then the counting is disabled ,pin number 15 is called the reset pin and it is used to reset the counter to zero and it is connected to vcc to reset the counter.
WORKING
The circuit is connected as shown. Now as the tsop receives infrared light its output becomes low. As the output of tsop is low and it is connected to base of bc558,the transistor switches and its output that is equal to v cc is connected to pin number 14 f the ic,that is the clock input.
Pin number 16 is connected to ground and pin number 8 is connected to ground.
Now as we applied input from 14 pin the counter starts and consequently d0 d1 and d2 reach a state of high simultaneously one by one. The pin number 15 is connected to pin number four that is when output of pin nuber four reaches high then the ic is reset that is again the counter starts.then after that we are recieing the output from pin number 2 that output is going in the base of the transistor bc 548 which is the pnp transistor and it switches using a high output and in turn the relay is switched and our appliance turns on and as again the infrared transmitting remote sends a signal to tsop the again the same process happens and the relay switches and the appliance is turned off
